The cold temperature and ground frost did not stop the success of the 2nd Annual Run for the Fields 5K and kids race on Saturday October 17th. The start and finish mark was at the Johnson Creek Community Center and routed along the village streets and grass pathways by the Rock River. The purpose of the run was to build up funds for the new athletic fields that will be built by the new 5-12th grade dome buildings being erected on the Hwy B site in Johnson Creek. Over 175 participants of all abilities took part in the 5K and kids one mile race. That is a 50% increase over last year’s participants. This year’s run raised over $8,700 for the future athletic fields at the new school. The over-all winner with a time of 18:23 was James Arnold of Johnson Creek. The over-all women’s leader was Hannah Constable with a time of 20:52.
“As part of the One Team One Dream capital campaign, the Run for the Fields fund raising event was another example of our community coming together for a great cause. In working with our outstanding sponsors, coaches, teachers, volunteers and race coordinators, the Run for the Fields will continue to be a major contributing event with a focus on the future athletic fields,” said Cale Vogel, Principal and Athletic Director, Johnson Creek School District.
