On Thursday, September 21st, Mr. Joe Lucchesi came to talk to Johnson Creek Middle School students about his career as an Engineer/Project Manager with Butters-Fetting Company out of Milwaukee. Working mostly in industrial HVAC, Mr. Lucchesi talked about the problem solving that he has done over his 35 year career. One recent project was the boiler replacement at Wisconsin Lutheran High School where he had to remove 30,000 lbs of the previous system and install the new system with a 300 foot, 500 ton crane. Mr. Lucchesi stressed the importance of multitasking and working with the many people involved to get the project done.
Students from our school first met Mr. Lucchesi at the Future City Regional Competition last January at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. For the competition students create a vision for a city 100 years from now through an essay, presentation, scale model and management of a virtual city using SimCity software. Mr. Lucchesi has been a volunteer judge as a Professional Engineer with Future City for the last eight years and he was interested in giving our students insight for better success at the competition.
All students grades 5-8 will be working on creating their own cities of the future in teams through Mr. Petersen’s Engineering class during the first quarter. Teams of 7th and 8th grade students will also be forming to do the full Future CIty competition and compete at regionals in January 2018. If you have any questions, or you are interested in helping out, contact Mr. Petersen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
