The Johnson Creek Elementary Poetry Club hosted their first Open Mic night on Thursday, May 4 at the Community Center from 5:30-7:00pm. A great time was had by all! Students and staff read poems. Some even shared poems they had written themselves. Miss Abby Armour, the school librarian, served as the emcee and Juanita Edington, the school music teacher, played her cello as background music. The community center was turned into a cafe setting with a small stage and spotlight for readers. There were opportunities for families to create found poems using magnetic poetry, blackout poetry, and words from magazines. All children received a beret. Refreshments were served. This was all made possible through a grant from the Johnson Creek Education Foundation. Items for the Johnson Creek Food Pantry were collected.
