Over spring break 48 students and 7 chaperones took a 6 day long trip to Orlando Florida. While there, we went to Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Springs, and Hollywood Studios. The choir and band both took part in workshops where they worked with Disney recording engineers and musicians to record music from popular Disney movies such as Tangled, Lion King, and Star Wars.
On the final day of the trip, both groups gave incredible performances at Disney Springs. Both performances went extremely well. It was a different experience for many of us because it was a completely exposed, open, outdoor stage. The wind played a factor and kept blowing our music around, but despite that, both groups performed with class and wowed the crowd.
The bus ride was definitely the most exhausting and uncomfortable part of the whole trip. The bus ride took 24 hours each way. We made frequent stops to get food, switch drivers, and refuel. We had an awesome bus driver named Charity while we were in Florida, and she helped make the trip and bus ride a bit more bearable. I think the best part of the trip was getting to see all of our students interacting with each other, laughing, and having a great time!
For many students, this is the first time out of Wisconsin or the midwest; and it was really cool to see them really take everything in and experience new people, places, and activities! With a trip like this, it is hard to pinpoint one specific thing that was the best part because it was all so much fun! This is for sure something that we will do again. The band and choir take a trip every other year. The next trip we will take will be in the spring of 2019. We are not sure where yet, but it is sure to be another great trip!
